Surface Area of a Hemisphere

Surface Area of a Hemisphere is the measure of how much exposed area a hemisphere has. Surface Area of a hemisphere is expressed in square units.

Surface Area of a Hemisphere Formula

 

The area of the exposed portions of a Hemisphere is called as surface area of a Hemisphere. The surface area of a hemisphere is given by the following formula,

Surface Area of a Hemisphere = r2

The curved surface area of a hemisphere is given as follows,

Curved Surface Area of a Hemisphere = 2`Pi` r2

The total surface area of a hemisphere is given as follows,

Total Surface Area of a Hemisphere = 3`Pi` r2

 

How to Find Surface Area of a Hemisphere

 

Listed below are some of the examples to find the surface area of a hemisphere.

Example 1:

Find the radius of a hemisphere where the total surface area is 1846.32 cm2

Solution:

The total surface area of the hemisphere = 1846.32 cm2

we know, total surface area of a hemisphere is given by 3 Π r2 square units.

Therefore,

                                   3 Π r2   =  1846.32 cm2

                          
3 * 3.14 * r2  = 1846.32 cm2

                                 9.42 * r= 1846.32

                                             r= 1814.92 / 9.42

                                             r2 = 192.67

Radius of the hemisphere, r =  14 cm

Example 2:

Find the total surface area of the hemisphere which is of radius equal to 11 cm.

Solution:

The radius of the hemisphere, r = 11 cm.

We know, total surface area of a hemisphere  is given by 3`Pi` r2 square units.

Therefore,

Total Surface Area = 3 * 3.14 * 112

                                  = 3 * 3.14 * 11 * 11

Total Surface Area =  1139.82 cm2
